Wish List Wednesday

Today I'm starting "Wish List Wednesday".

One of my favorite things to do is go shopping...specifically at Anthropologie :) Last September I moved to NYC. Big move for a girl from Arizona. It was the right choice for me at the time. No regrets so far ;) You can imagine my tendencies to want to shop every day though! I did just that for a while. Realizing I don't really need anything and have no room to put more things in, I decided one of my goals this year would be to have more self control.

My "Wish List Wednesday" posts will have things that I would like to buy; but, will take a picture of instead and things that I feel bring me happiness. I'm a pretty easy going kinda girl so you'll find that the most simple things make me happy :)

Here we go...

I wish...

1. Tea.

...I could have a cup of this tea every morning while enjoying the view through my window.

2. Vintage Furniture.

...to one day have a home with lovely vintage seating.

3. Peacocks.

...a had a peacock as a pet :)

4. Ladders.

...to live in a building like the one below...(and have a plant too.)

5. Seafoam Green.

...to find things around the city that are seafoam green...my fave color.

6. Odessa.

...I could have my doggie with me.

In Love | Photo Challenge

I have been so busy and have neglected my lovely blog these past days!

Fortunately, I had a little time this evening to peek around my cyber friend's wonderful blog!

Jhen has been doing a photo challenge for the past few weeks titled "In LOVE"!

It is so wonderful to see such different images all referring to one little, but powerful, 4-letter word!

I joined the challenge a couple of weeks ago and LOVED it muchly, that I wanted to be a part of it again!

I am "In Love" with my image because I feel children show us what true, honest love is.

They hug you just because, they kiss you and tell you they love you out of nowhere, they want to hold hands because they trust you and somehow they always know when you need to hear those words the most and when you need that extra hug.

I have been admiring Morgaine's work for quite some time now. When I found out that she was going to be in Arizona for the holidays {and close to where I live} I thought it would be a wonderful idea to meet. She agreed. We had a lovely afternoon full of shooting. She photographed Nathan & I for a while. I photographed her & her cute little boy :)

Morgaine is the owner of Pure Light Studio. If you haven't had a chance to check out her work, do so now! You will not regret it. She is able to capture beautiful moments with such ease. Her work has such an organic feel to it.

Trust me, you will fall in love with it as much as I have ;)

I met Gwenn a couple of years ago while working with underprivileged children in Perú. Gwenn was the Program Director and I was a Teacher, whose room was infested with bedbugs! If there's something I don't like in this world, it's insects like these {and roaches}! She was kind enough to let me stay at her place while my room was being cleared of these awful insects and we have been friends ever since :)

Gwenn came down to visit me Christmas weekend and I took her to the cute town of Bisbee for a mini session :D She's from New York and kept making fun of us Arizonans for wearing our winter coats while she was wearing a short sleeved shirt! OK, maybe we don't need full on winter coats but we should have a right to buy them as well ;)

Love this girl! And now it's time to enjoy this beautiful sesh!

I ADORE this session so much, I could write something about each image!...

but I'll let the photographs do the talking ;)

Tucson, Arizona Couples Photographer | Magaly & Joshua ~ Time Travelers Part 1

This session is inspired by "The Time Traveler's Wife". Actually, just by the title because I have not seen the movie yet :) I saw the preview or poster or something that reminded me how much I enjoy time and travel ;)

We incorporated watches & clocks, maps, coins from around the world, passports, planes, boats and more!

Magaly & Joshua let me know they were up for anything I had in mind...which made me love them even more! :) I have known Magaly since I was 16. She is one of my most favorite people in this world. I know I can always count on her to say the right thing, make me laugh & comfort me when I need it...just to name a few. Joshua is an amazing opera singer & also holds a special place in my heart. When Nathan & I got married, he sang Ave Maria during our ceremony! Aside from marrying the man I love, hearing him sing was my most favorite part of that day.

And now on to part 1 of this fabulous session! Enjoy!!

Sierra Vista, Arizona Family Photographer | Janie + Keyondra + Tim

I want to start by saying Happy Christmas Eve! Nathan and I will be heading to Tucson in a few hours to spend it with his family. We compromise by spending Thanksgiving with my family and Christmas with his. This year we did not have a Thanksgiving Feast with my family because my mom had to be in Mexico with grandpa who is not doing too good :( I love you Grandpa! Make sure to enjoy every moment you get to spend with your family and remember to always let them know how much they mean to you :)

On that note...here is a lovely family session I want to share with you all. We showed up at the beautiful location and saw we were not the only ones there...peacocks and turkeys were enjoying the morning brisk as well ;)

Now a little about the family. Janie is such a kind, warm hearted woman. Not only does she recommend me to her friends ;) but, on a more important level, she's always helping people in need. I won't get into any details and that but seriously Janie, you are AMAZING!! Her son Tim, who is in the military, was here on holiday leave and Janie tought it was the perfect time for some family portraits :) In case you don't remember, this is not Keyondra's first time in front of my camera. She is also a wonderful girl. Good Luck Key with picking the right University for you ;)

Here's a sweet family I had the pleasure of having in front of my camera this past weekend,

on the 28th of November to be exact ;)

In the spirit of giving thanks, I want to share one of the things I am thankful for.

A month ago a very good friend of mine got married in Mexico. She had been with her boyfriend for about 7 years; needless to say, I was as happy as can be to be there for their wedding day! We left AZ and entered Sonora the Friday before the BIG day!

A little off the subject...4 days after Nathan and I got married {April 2006} we were headed to Mexico and got in a terrible car accident. We were approximately 50 miles into Mexico and we found out our insurance only covered 60 miles into Mexico. We were not only relieved to have minor injuries but that our insurance was able to cover all our expenses including our totaled car. Since then, every time we head that way we stop at what is known as kilometer 21 and buy mexican car insurance.

This time was no different. We got there and as soon as we started walking a super cute and friendly puppy came over to greet us! She seemed to be smitten with Nathan and he couldn't help but feel the same. She followed us around the 30-40 minutes we were there. When it came time to continue our trip, we were having a hard time leaving her. We had no choice but to do so. Our hearts were sad but we decided that if she was still there on our way back, we'd take her with us.

We came back Sunday. We were prepared in case she was there: bought her a bed, some paper towels in case of...well, you know, etc. 21 was approaching and we were anxious to see if she would still be there. We got there and immediately started our search for the puppy. Fifteen minutes of searching and no sign of her anywhere. This may not seem like a long time but k21 is basically just a building. To be honest, in a way I think we were both a little relieved that she wasn't there because of the extra expenses, not knowing if my current dog, Odessa, and her would get along and all that.

On the other hand, I couldn't help but pray to God to help us find her in the next few minutes.

Literally two minutes before we left, low and behold...there she was. She came from behind a white truck and I couldn't believe it! We put her in her new little bed and she slept the whole way home :) We named her Ralfie and I am happy to say that Odessa and her are great sisters ;)

I am thankful for being able to provide a puppy a happy home to live in and a family to be a part of.

Hermosillo, Sonora Portrait Photographer | 40th Wedding Anniversary

I wanted to photograph my parents for their 40th Wedding Anniversary as their gift. I thought what better place than where they grew up and met, Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico! We went around the places they have always known like the "Plaza", Grandpa's Restaurant & other common streets around there.

New Mexico & Arizona {Day 15} | Personal

4056 miles, 96 hours of driving, 2 flat tires and a broken water pipe later, we have concluded our roadtrip. Yesterday was the last day of our trip and it was SUCH a wonderful roadtrip, even though we had our setbacks from the camper. We truly enjoyed every single state we were in!

New Mexico was very cold, windy and rainy yesterday. Still beautiful though!

Finally made it to Arizona {Home Sweet Home} *sigh*. We entered the desert and have experienced the coldest weather throughout our whole trip! Go figure.

Highlights from our trip:
Favorite City/Town: Texarkana, Texas
Favorite Meal: Double Eagle Restaurant in Las Cruces, New Mexico
Favorite Attraction: WWII Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana
Favorite Days: April 14th {A Blooming Affair Workshop} & April 22nd {Earth Day and our Anniversary}
Reason I missed home the most: Odessa {last photograph}

The reason for our trip was a photography workshop in Huntsville, Alabama. Was it worth all the extra miles on our truck? MOST DEFINATELY! I learned soooo much from Simply Bloom Photography. Thank You girls for being so AWESOME!

West Texas & New Mexico {Day 14} | Personal

I want to start by saying Happy Earth Day! AND Happy 4th Anniversary to my hubby and I!

We made it to our last stop in Las Cruces ,New Mexico. He took me to dinner and it was THE best restaurant ever! Not only was the food DE-licious but the place was gorgeous, inviting, romantic, PERFECT! It is a historic building in Old Mesilla, New Mexico. If you are ever in Las Cruces, please stop by the Double Eagle Restaurant. You will not regret it!

We finally made it out of Texas and right into New Mexico. We drove by the White Sand National Monument, stopped at a space museum in Alamogordo and had amazing mountains surrounding us. It was extremely gray driving through New Mexico but it looked so beautiful with all the clouds at the top of the hills.

Tomorrow...HOME. I cannot wait to see my little pup, Odessa!

East Texas {Day 12} | Personal

Today we visited The Alamo, saw more of the River Walk, ate some Tex-Mex food & saw some lovely historic hotels in San Antonio. My uncle Hector and Aunt Bertha met us and showed us around. It was very nice spending the day with them since last time we saw eachother was 3 years ago at our wedding in Tucson, Arizona. After we got "home", Nathan and I took a walk around our campground and saw this cute little squirrel eating sunflower seeds, getting a drink of water to wash down the seeds and posing for me after that. We will continue relaxing for the rest of the day. Here are some photographs of our day!

Louisiana & East Texas {Day 10} | Personal

Good day to every one! Yesterday was mostly driving through Louisiana and we spend the night in Columbus, Texas at a very nice campground. Cows, train tracks and trains going by constantly, which we both love the sound of! We had a nice walk on the railroad and saw some trains while on our walk. The last couple of images are in Lousisana. Captured one more beautiful bridge there and some amazing electrical transmission towers.

Louisiana {Day 9} | Personal

We spent the day in New Orleans, Louisiana today. We visited the Garden District, French Quarter, Bourbon Street, Audubon Aquarium of the Americas and the National WWII Museum & Solomon Victory Theater.

The Garden District is full of some of the most gorgeous homes I've ever seen. These homes were built in the 1800's! Just Beautiful!

The French Quarter & Bourbon Street are full of restaurants and bars for the partying type of person. This was definately not my scene but if you are here to have a good time drinking and dancing ...this would be the place to go! I was two inches away from stepping in fresh vomit though so, watch your step!

The aquarium was very interesting. We didn't realize it was Saturday...we walked in and it was packed with children on fieldtrips and big tourist groups. A bit crowded but still fun.

We finished our day by going to the World War II museum and theater. This was by far THE best part of the day! The Solomon Victory Theater has a documentary on WWII called Beyond All Boundaries and it is beyond amazing! The effects they have are just awesome. I would recommend coming to New Orleans just for that! The Museum is full of artifacts and photographs from WWII.

Enjoy the images. The first photograph is of a gentleman who not only offered his seat to me in the theater but was in the D-Day invasion. It was an honor meeting him.

**Just to specify, the photographs taken in the WWII museum are photographs of photographs in the museum and the colors were not altered in any way.

Alabama, Mississippi & Louisiana {Day 8} | Personal

Today we saw some more beautiful towns in Alabama, Mississippi and made it to our destination, New Orleans, Louisiana!

In Alabama, we checked out the USS Alabama! It was pretty amazing! I really like looking at things from the past and old images of how things used to be. There was also the USS Drum, which was a submarine used in WWII! Again Amazing!

In Mississippi we drove around Biloxi. There were some very big bridges over water we got to see. I just think it's incredible how we can have such bridges. I can only imagine the difficulties that it took to make them. Also, I really enjoyed seeing a railroad right above the water {with a train passing by}. That was a first for me. I didn't have time to photograph it though.

So far, our trip has been fun with exceptions of our camper problems! Speaking of problems, today we had another, like usual. We were about 10 miles away from the campground and we hear this unusual noise coming from somewhere but could not figure out where. We finally pulled over and found that part of the metal was coming off! {photograph below} I believe the only days nothing has happened to the camper were our first {which was only a 3 hour drive} and day 6 {which was the day of the workshop...camper did not move}. Here's hoping for a problem free day tomorrow! We shouldn't have any problems since it will be parked the whole day...we will be visiting downtown New Orleans!

Alabama & Florida {Day 7} | Personal

Yesterday morning we left Hunstville, Alabama and headed south. Crossed all of Alabama and went down into Florida. Then crossed a bridge and we were back in Alabama. So...we spent the night in Lillian, Alabama with the beach in our backyard {ok, a 2 minute walk to get there} and a view of Florida in the background. Love love! Alabama - The Workshop {Day 6} | Personal

The reason for our trip was this WONDERFUL photography workshop I signed up for in Alabama! It was definately worth the trip!
I learned so much from these lovely girls of Simply Bloom Photography. Thank You so much for all the information you shared and for helping me move forward with my business! I had a blast!!

Here are some shots from our shoot! I will be posting the ones of the session in the near future.

At the end of the day I was exhausted from all the learning {as you'll be able to tell from my photograph}. But got "home" to a sweet gift from Nathan! Tulips {my fave}.

Mississippi & Alabama {Day 5} | Personal

We have now made it to Alabama! This post is not as long because after crossing Abilene, Texas everything was pretty much the same. BEAUTIFULLY green, water every where, very tall trees, etc. My favorite tree was one with these lavender colored flowers on them. Just tall, GORGEOUS, PERFECT trees!

As far as Nathan seeing "different" things out his side mirror...today he saw a lady flagging us down. We slowed down, she caught up and let us know that one of our tires {BRAND NEW TIRES} had blown out and was tearing up the camper! We didn't even feel this one. We pulled over and sure enough the wheel well trim was broken and the tire distroyed. I might mention we were only about 20 miles from our final destination for the day, of course. He replaced it very quickly and we were able to get to Huntsville, Alabama while it was still daylight.

This day was our "welcoming dinner" for my photography workshop! It was great! Delicious food, nice conversations, good people around!
The day after...the WORKSHOP! AND IT ROCKED!!

Arkansas & Tennessee {Day 4} | Personal

Though Texas is lovely, I am happy to say...we are now OUT of Texas.

Wondering if anything happened today? With our record so far, why not. Well...yes. Something did happen today! We were driving through Arkansas, minding our own business...enjoying the bayous and tall green trees all around. Then, Nathan looks out his side mirror. This time there were no pieces of tire tread flying but red, white and blue lights flashing! That's right! An Arkansas State Trooper was pulling us over. To skip the details...he let us off the hook {we were able to leave the site with just a warning}. Thank You State Trooper.

So we spent our day crossing Arkansas and made it to Memphis, Tennessee! This might sound silly but...I have been wanting to come to Memphis since I was 12 or so. The reason was {this is the silly part} the "Walking in Memphis" song. I still enjoy that song so much {18 years later}! Had to listen to it twice before I got there. Well, I finally made it to Memphis thanks to my Nathan! Thank You baby!! It's a pretty city. Saw the Mississippi River, Graceland and cool bridges.

East Texas {Day 3} | Personal

Yesterday we woke up in Abilene, Texas to an overcast day, birds chirping, and squirrels climbing trees. Very nice morning! Our final destination was Texarkana, Texas. We made it there with no problems {new tires on the camper helped}.

Nathan decided to fix a little leak we had on the fresh water pipe once we got to Texarkana. Everything was going well until...he tightened the pipe a little more. CRACK! The fitting going into the pump broke! Sooo...we hung out at home depot for about an hour in the hot climate, once again. Finally got the right stuff and were able to move on from there.

I needed some time apart from the camper so we dropped it off and went to visit the town and have dinner {and a much needed drink}!

Here are some photographs of our Texas roadtrip from yesterday. The first photograph is of Dallas, Texas. The rest are all from Texarkana, except the rockwall water tower {just thought it was pretty and wanted to share}. The campground in Texarkana was very nice! I enjoyed having that landscape as my backyard for the day.

**A little US History - The building in Texarkana is a court house and post office. It is the only Federal building in the US that straddles a state line.

New Mexico & West Texas {Day 2} | Personal

A LONG nine hour day turned into an EVEN LONGER twelve and a half hour day.

I wanted to add the last photograph I took in New Mexico {Deming, New Mexico}. I really like water towers. I wasn't aware of how much I enjoy looking at water towers! You'll probably see lots more throughout this trip! Our day started like any normal sunny day in New Mexico. Crossed over into Texas and while Texas is very beautiful, crossing that desert is a bit much for some people. It's flat desert for miles and miles. AND MILES! You can't even see mountains behind or a flower here and there. Or a city for that matter. NOTHING! On the plus side, if you are the passenger, it's a great time to take a nap...you won't miss anything.

So...we're in Texas, everything's going great...9 miles until Pecos, Texas and all of a sudden the camper shook a bit abnormally. Nathan looks out his side mirror and sees parts of a tire flying behind us. We pulled over and check our tires...they were all still there but one had lost the tread. Hazzards on, going 55 miles per hour on an 80 mph interstate hoping the tire doesn't pop! We make it to Pecos, Texas {which looks a bit deserted}, call 411 for a trusty Wal-Mart and find out there is one there! GREAT! Get to Wal-Mart and it is the smallest one we've ever seen and has NO Tire/Lube Center! It was so freakin' hot there! Where the sun feels like it's burning your skin off! By this time it is 4PM in a small town and you know everything closes early in small towns. Well...we see this tire place and a man working in the back. We pull over, he tells us they close at 12PM but he can fix it for a little extra. Called his friend to come down to the shop and 30 minutes we were out of there with 4 new tires and a new spare. Bless their hearts! We were so thankful they got us back on the road so quickly! Thank You two VERY much!!

Finally made it to our resting point of Abilene, Texas! Thank GOD!

Not too many photographs...three quarters of the trip was the flat desert!

Arizona & New Mexico {Day 1} | Personal

Our first trip was short and sweet. We left home {Sierra Vista, Arizona} and three hours later we made it to our first campground in Lordsburg, New Mexico. I haven't mentioned that we will be staying in campgrounds throughout our trip! This is a first for me...I'm a city girl who likes her hotels! But I was told that in a marriage you must compromise...so...that's that! The reason for our trip is a photo workshop I want to be a part of! It is in Alabama and I thought since he is taking me all the way to Alabama and paying for my workshop, I can stay in an RV for 14 days. Last night was very very nice! Quiet, surrounded by stars and mountains and fireworks! There are stores everywhere in New Mexico selling fireworks. I very much enjoyed that! We went down to buy some fireworks and lit them right up! It was great! Just the two of us and the dark skies...*sigh*.
Fireworks remind me so much of my childhood. I was born in Downey, California and aside from walking down to Pic-N-Save with my mamma, rainbow sherbert ice cream from Thrifty and grocery shopping at Lucky, buying fireworks for 4th of July at Red Devil and Freedom is something I remember like it was yesterday. Every time I go to Cali, I have to drive to Downey and see my old house. I like to see how much Downey and my old house have changed.

Anyway, Here are a few photographs of Arizona and New Mexico.

Good morning! I'm getting more and more excited every passing day!! Why? Because of our roadtrip! We hit the road Friday afternoon! On a more personal level...

I have decided to stop neglecting my little ol' blog! I am going to start writing more about moi, my lovely family and our Life on a regular basis! This way, my past clients, new clients and readers will feel a little more connected to me :) There are only three of us at the moment: Nathan {my hubby}, Odessa {our sweet pitbull} and myself!

Living in Arizona, working with children and photography are some of my favorite things. Sure it gets hot here...REALLY hot! But I wouldn't want to live anywhere else...ok ok..mayyybe France. OKKK DEFINATELY FRANCE :) The first time I was there I was only 18 and I haven't been able to get over it {12 years later}! It was just oh so incredible. Then I go and watch "A Good Year", "Amelie" and "Julie & Julia"!! I'll never get over France! Actually, I would never want to. It's just tooo AMAZING!!! I met some of the most friendly people there...from all over the world! Sigh...I just hope that one of these days Nathan and I will be on our way to France.

So, I got my new camera at the beginning of the month and it is really a WONDERFUL camera! I still have to get used to it though. I had been shooting with a Nikon for the past 2 years and I loved it but I just thought it was time for a change. I decided to get a Canon. I believe both Nikon and Canon are extremely great cameras, but I just enjoy mixing things up :) It's been a bit of a challenge learning it but so much FUN! Here is my first set of photographs with my new baby! I don't think they're half bad. Wouldn't you agree? Like we all know, practice makes perfect!

Here's one of my lovely cousins! I have plenty of cousins! My husband makes fun of me because I have around 70 or so and he has like 2! Took this one 'bout 10 years ago. She is now all grown up! She was probably about 16 at the time. She's still lovely though ;)

Deirdre is a great friend of mine who I miss very much :) She moved to NY last year and even though I hardly ever saw her when she lived in California, I know it'll be even harder for me to see her now.
